The glass polishing rod with polishing cloth finishes the inside and outside of a glass in one motion. Slide the glass over the rod, turn it halfway around, and put it away without streaks. Intended for bars and restaurants where glassware comes out of the dishwasher with limescale streaks or water spots.
Working with the polishing rod
Glasses are polished most quickly while they are still lukewarm from the machine. Place the rod on the workbench, pull the cloth over it, and slide the glass over it. This polishes the inside and outside at the same time, so you only have to hold the glass once. Hold the glass by the foot or bowl, never by the rim: that is where the glass is thinnest and breaks most easily. Store polished glasses upside down in a glass rack so the result lasts until the next service.
Maintaining the cloth
The polishing cloth is washable and lasts a long time if you wash it separately, without fabric softener. Fabric softener leaves a film that actually causes streaks. Wash the cloth at sixty degrees and let it air-dry. If there is limescale on your glasses that you cannot remove, the problem is in the dishwasher, not the cloth; check your water softener and rinse aid. Polishing does not work for carafes and bottles, so use a glass brush. Other polishing supplies can be found among the wine accessories.
