Think in terms of jobs. The 22 cl tumbler is the classic water glass beside the plate; the 28 cl is the size for soft drinks and juice; the 36 cl you use for carafe water on the table or for spirits over ice. On the long drink side, 29.6 cl is the standard for draught beer and soft drinks, and 35.5 cl is meant for mixed drinks filled to the rim with ice. If you only need water glasses, the 22 and 28 cl will do. For a complete menu, add one long drink size.

The straight wall without a waist makes these glasses quick to fill and quick to wash, which is worth more at a busy bar than it sounds on paper. For a Cuba Libre, fill the 35.5 cl completely with ice, pour the rum and let the cola run down the side so the bubbles stay in. For a gin and tonic this glass is tight: that serve clearly benefits from a wider bowl, in which the botanicals get more room.

Onis tempers the rim of the series, exactly the spot where most damage occurs in a wash-up area. The shape helps too: no ribs or grooves means no places where beer residue and grease collect. After a round of beer, do wash with a glass brush, because grease residue from the foam is the reason the next glass will not hold a head. With beer glasses, leave the rinse aid out.

If you mainly use them for beer, the shapes that keep a head are under beer glasses. If cupboard space is tight, the stackable glasses are a better choice than these straight models.
