The Bar Professional julep strainer is a perforated stainless-steel bowl with a short handle. You place it at an angle in the mixing glass and hold it in place with your thumb while pouring: the classic tool for stirred cocktails.
Why use a julep strainer for stirred drinks
A stirred cocktail such as a Martini or Manhattan contains no pulp or mint leaves, so you only need to hold back the ice cubes. There is no need for a spring: the perforations do the work and let the drink pass through quickly. The strainer rests in the bowl of the glass and follows its curve. For shaken drinks with citrus, use a hawthorne strainer from the cocktail strainers.
Combining and maintaining
The julep strainer fits most mixing glasses; combine it with a long bar spoon for a complete setup. The untreated steel is dishwasher-safe and does not discolor from bitters or vermouth.
