The story
Peachtree was launched in 1984 by De Kuyper from Schiedam, named after Peachtree Street in Atlanta. It became one of the fastest-selling liqueur launches ever: within two years, the bottle was behind virtually every American bar, and the peach schnapps wave that followed also brought us Sex on the Beach and the Fuzzy Navel. In the Netherlands, the bottle developed a life of its own: here, Peachtree became above all the drink mixed with orange juice—sweet, low in alcohol, and familiar enough to serve to everyone.
The right glass
A Peachtree is a long drink, so it belongs in a tall glass holding 33 to 47 cl. For this cocktail, feel free to go for the larger size: the proportions are mild, so a generous glass with plenty of ice makes it fresher rather than weaker. Choose clear glass without a tint—the soft peach-orange color is half the fun. If you often serve guests, a stackable model is handy.

Variations & twists
The best-known variation is the Fizzy Peachtree: replace the orange juice with sparkling water or 7UP and add half a lime—much fresher and less sweet. Cranberry juice gives you a rosy version, while prosecco creates a peach spritz close to a Bellini. Add vodka and you are heading towards Sex on the Beach. Looking for more inspiration? Serving tip
Peach schnapps is quite sweet, so let the ice do its job: really fill the glass to the top. A few drops of fresh lemon juice lift the whole drink and take the candy-like edge off—the small difference between a children's drink and a cocktail. Serving a group? Mix it in advance in a carafe and keep the ice separate.
Frequently asked questions
Which glass do you use for a Peachtree cocktail?
A tall long-drink glass holding 33 to 47 cl. Browse our long-drink glasses for catering-quality sets.
What is a Fizzy Peachtree?
The same peach schnapps, but topped up with sparkling water or lemon soda instead of orange juice. Fresher, less sweet, and lower in calories.
How much alcohol does it contain?
Peach schnapps typically contains around 15 to 20 percent alcohol. In the proportions above, you end up with a long drink of approximately 5 percent alcohol—comparable to a glass of beer.
Can you make a Peachtree cocktail alcohol-free?
Yes: use peach syrup or peach tea instead of the liqueur, topped up with orange juice and sparkling water. The flavor and color remain virtually identical.
