Corona beer
Corona Extra is a light Mexican beer in a clear bottle. You drink it ice-cold, often with a lime wedge in the neck. The beer comes from Grupo Modelo in Mexico and is also available as alcohol-free Corona Cero. Here you can read what it tastes like, how to pour it and which glass goes with it.
The beer with the lime wedge
Corona Extra is a pale lager from Mexico, brewed by Grupo Modelo. The beer was launched in 1925 and is now one of the best-known beers in the world. Grupo Modelo has been fully owned by AB InBev since 2013. The name means crown in Spanish, and that crown is featured on the label.
Corona is light in taste and has 4.5% alcohol. The beer comes in a clear bottle and is often served with a lime wedge in the neck. No one knows for sure where this custom comes from. In any case, the lime adds a fresh, tart kick. Corona Cero is the alcohol-free version. According to the producer, a bottle contains 2.3 grams of sugar and 56 kcal.

Light, fresh, and thirst-quenching
Light and grainy
A mild aroma of grain and a hint of hops. With lime, you mainly smell citrus.
Light and bubbly
Light-bodied, with lots of fizz and little bitterness. Easy-drinking and refreshing.
Short and clean
The finish is short and fresh. That is why Corona pairs well with spicy food and warm weather.
Flavor profile of Corona Extra without lime. With a wedge of lime, it becomes fresher and slightly more acidic.
How to drink Corona
Corona is made to be enjoyed ice-cold. Drinking it from the bottle with lime is the classic way, but you can smell and taste more when it is served in a glass.
Ice-cold
Chill the bottles in the refrigerator well in advance. Corona is best served at around 3 to 5 degrees. When it gets warm, a light beer quickly loses its freshness.
With a wedge of lime
Press a wedge of lime into the neck of the bottle. Prefer a glass? Pour in the beer and place the lime on the rim or let it drop in.
As a michelada
In Mexico, they turn lager into a michelada with lime juice, hot sauce, and salt on the rim of the glass. Refreshing and spicy, perfect for a warm day.
Michelada recipe →Corona at the table
A light beer like Corona cools the heat of spicy food and goes well with anything from the grill.
Tacos and nachos
With tacos, burritos, nachos with guacamole and salsa. The lime in the beer complements the lime in the food.
Chili and curry
With spicy chicken, chili con carne, or a Thai curry. The cold fizz softens the heat.
From the grill
With skewers, grilled corn, burgers, and sausages. Light enough to enjoy all afternoon.
Ceviche and shrimp
With ceviche, grilled shrimp, or fish tacos. Refreshing with refreshing.
The right glass for Corona
Pour Corona into a tall, straight-sided glass. It keeps the beer cold and helps the bubbles last longer. Choose a glass larger than the bottle, leaving room for a head and a wedge of lime. These are the glasses we recommend.
