Stölzle Lausitz Classic

The three wine glasses cover the usual three-way split. The 37 cl is the white wine size: narrow enough to keep the wine cold. The 41 cl is the in-between size you can use for both colours. The 65 cl is the Burgundy glass, with a round bowl where powerful red wine can release its scent. Choose that largest size only if you really use it for red, because a crisp wine turns lukewarm in it. The 30.5 cl tumbler has a heavy base and is meant for spirits over ice; the 32 cl long drink glass is narrower and taller, which keeps the carbonation in for longer. For wine the one-third rule applies: never fill the bowl beyond a third, so you keep room to swirl. Hold the glass by the stem, not by the bowl. The 30.5 cl tumbler is the glass for an old fashioned, with one large ice block instead of a handful of cubes, so the drink gets cold without watering down quickly. The 32 cl long drink glass takes a gin tonic: ice to the rim first, then gin, then tonic down along the side.

Stölzle Lausitz makes the Classic from lead-free crystal glass, which is clearer than ordinary glass and copes with changes in temperature. Every piece may go in the dishwasher. Stand wine glasses upright and not too close together, because the thin rim is where damage starts. After a party, rinse straight away rather than leaving the glasses overnight: red wine and fruit acids will dull glass over time.
