Eclat Longchamp

Start with the glass you reach for most often. The 25 cl wine glass is the safest choice for both white and red wine: if you fill it one-third full, you’ll have about 8 cl in the glass with room above the wine. The 17 cl version is smaller and suits sweet wine or sherry. For whisky and aged genever, choose the 23 cl tumblers; the 32 cl version has room for a large ice cube. If you want the full range, there are four sizes for water, wine, spirits and sparkling wine.

The cut pattern extends right up to below the rim, which means you should pour at an angle to prevent drops from running along the facets. The 14 cl flute is meant for cold pours and should not be stirred, so the bubbles remain intact; a Kir Royal is made in it by pouring in the crème de cassis first and then slowly topping it up. The 6 cl liqueur glass is the measure for limoncello from the freezer, while the shot glass is for young jenever.

Crystal glass contains no lead and can therefore be safely washed in the dishwasher, provided you use a short cycle and do not let the glasses lean against each other. The facets are the most delicate part: when two cut edges rub against each other, they develop cloudy spots that cannot be removed. Place the glasses upright in a rack or a glassware set-basket and preferably wash the flute glasses by hand. Remove limescale from the grooves with a cloth and a little vinegar.
