RCR Aria

The size of the bowl decides how much air the wine gets. The 38 cl is the smallest and works for white wine you want to keep cool; the less wine standing in the glass, the longer the temperature holds. The 46 cl is the all-rounder for white and light red. The 72 cl is a burgundy shape: round and wide, meant for grapes with plenty of aroma such as pinot noir. The 79 cl is the roomiest and gives full-bodied red wine the most air. Sparkling wine goes into the flute of 36 cl if you want to hold on to the bubbles, or into the coupe of 33 cl if the aromas matter more. Pour up to the widest point of the bowl and no higher, because the space above that is what holds the aromas. In a glass of 79 cl that is often no more than a third. Hold the glass by the stem so your hand does not warm the wine, and swirl briefly rather than at length. A bottle that has just been opened benefits from air: pour one glass first and let the rest stand for a while. For a festive start, a mimosa or a champagne cocktail works well in the coupe.

Luxion is lead-free crystal glass with a hardened rim, which is why Aria may go in the dishwasher. With thin bowls the placement matters more than the programme: put the glasses apart in the rack so the rims do not touch, because that is where most cracks start. Dry the stem afterwards with a clean cloth, then no rings are left behind for the light to break on. With hard water a short rinse helps to prevent limescale on the bowl.
