Crema Catalana liqueur
Crema Catalana liqueur is the Catalan dessert in a bottle: a creamy liqueur with lemon, cinnamon and caramel. You drink it cold, as a sweet little glass after dinner. Here you can read what it is, which bottles are available, how to drink it and which glass goes with it.
The Catalan dessert as a liqueur
Crema catalana is a famous dessert from Catalonia, the region around Barcelona. It is a custard made with milk, egg yolks and sugar, flavored with lemon zest and cinnamon. Just before serving, the sugar on top is caramelized into a crisp layer. It resembles crème brûlée, but crème brûlée is usually made with cream and vanilla, while crema catalana is made with milk, lemon and cinnamon.
Crema Catalana liqueur captures that dessert in a bottle. It is a cream liqueur with 17% alcohol, with notes of lemon, orange, cinnamon, caramel and cane sugar. Melody, one of the two bottles at Gall & Gall, comes from the Spanish distillery Campeny and is made with cinnamon, lemon, egg and sugar. The liqueur tastes best ice-cold, neat or with a little ice.

Three ways to drink Crema Catalana
The most important thing: keep it well chilled. Put the bottle in the refrigerator or briefly in the freezer before pouring.
Ice-cold as a shot
Pour the liqueur ice-cold into a small glass and serve it with coffee after dinner. A pinch of cinnamon on top finishes it off.
Glass: shot glass →Over ice
Add a few ice cubes to a tumbler and pour 4 to 5 cl over them. This keeps it cold without having to put the bottle in the freezer.
Glass: tumbler →In coffee or over ice cream
A splash in a cappuccino or caffè latte, or over a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Refrigerate the bottle after opening.
Coffee cocktails →Cocktails for those who love Crema Catalana
