Glenfiddich Fire & Cane
Peated and unpeated Glenfiddich brought together and finished in Latin American rum casks. Gentle smoke, caramel, and caramelized sugar: the most approachable way to taste smoke.

Smoke from Speyside, sweetness from rum casks
Fire & Cane is part of the Experimental Series, where Glenfiddich's malt master shares his experiments. It's a marriage of peated and unpeated Glenfiddich, both aged in American oak ex-bourbon casks. The whisky is then finished in Latin American rum casks, which add an extra layer of sweet caramel.
That makes it the only bottle in the core range with smoke. But this isn't a heavy Islay: the peat is gentle and balanced by apple, wood, and the sweetness of the rum. At 43%, it's slightly stronger than the classic age-statement expressions at 40%. It has no age statement; the focus is on the combination of smoke and rum cask.
At a glance
Gentle smoke with caramel
Campfire & apple
A gentle smoky note, like a distant campfire, with fresh apple and sweet caramel underneath.
Sweet and smoky
The rum casks add sweetness and caramelized sugar; the peat remains present but never overpowering.
Wood and smoke
A medium-length finish with oak and a final hint of smoke that fades gently.
Tasting profile of Glenfiddich Fire & Cane neat. Smokier than any other Glenfiddich, but much milder than an Islay whisky.
How to drink Fire & Cane
Smoke and sweetness call for a little attention. Neat is the best introduction, but in a Penicillin it shows why it exists.
Neat, for those who want to try smoky whisky
Pour 3 cl into a tulip-shaped glass and don't inhale too deeply: the peat is on top, with apple and caramel underneath. A few drops of water soften the smoke.
Glass: tasting glass →Penicillin-style
Shake 50 ml Fire & Cane, 20 ml lemon juice, 20 ml honey syrup, and a few slices of fresh ginger with ice, then strain over a large ice cube in a tumbler. The smoke is built in here, so there's no need for a separate float.

40 ml Fire & Cane with 120 ml ice-cold sparkling water in a long drink glass full of ice, with a slice of apple. Light, dry, and with a surprising smoky note.

Whisky Highball
Whisky and soda over plenty of ice. The smoke adds a dry, savory edge.
Rusty Nail
