What is Cointreau Noir?

Orange meets cognac

Cointreau Noir brings together two French classics: Cointreau orange liqueur and Rémy Martin cognac. The original's sweet and bitter orange peels are joined by the smooth aroma of cognac. The recipe is also enriched with a nut and almond macerate for added depth.

While regular Cointreau is colorless and mainly used in cocktails, Noir is golden with an amber glow and rich enough to drink neat. It has the same alcohol content: 40%. Think of it as the digestif version of Cointreau, which also works beautifully in cognac cocktails like the Sidecar.

How to drink it

Three ways to drink Cointreau Noir

Noir is the Cointreau you can drink without a mixer. But it also makes classic cognac cocktails more complete.

Neat as a digestif

Pour 30 ml at room temperature into a small cognac glass after dinner. Warm the glass in your hand for a moment; this brings out the cognac, vanilla, and nuts best.

Cognac glasses →

On the rocks with orange

Pour 50 ml Noir over a large ice cube in a tumbler, with an orange zest. A fresh start, with a warm finish.

Tumblers →

Noir Sidecar

Shake 40 ml cognac, 25 ml Cointreau Noir, and 20 ml lemon juice hard with ice, then strain into a coupe with a sugared rim. Deeper and rounder than with regular Cointreau.

Everything about Cointreau →

What percentage alcohol does Cointreau Noir contain?
Cointreau Noir contains 40% alcohol, just like regular Cointreau. Cointreau Spicy is 30%.
What is the difference between Cointreau and Cointreau Noir?

Is Cointreau Noir the same as Grand Marnier?
No, although they may seem similar: both combine orange with cognac. Cointreau Noir is made with Cointreau and Rémy Martin cognac, and also includes nuts and almonds in the recipe.
