Hendrick's
The gin in the dark apothecary bottle that made cucumber popular in gin and tonic. Everything about the taste, alcohol percentage, limited editions, the perfect gin and tonic, and the glass to serve it in.
Two stills, eleven botanicals and a cucumber
Hendrick's was launched in 1999 by William Grant & Sons in Girvan, on Scotland's west coast. Master distiller Lesley Gracie created a gin made in two different stills: a Carter-Head still from 1948, which produces a light, floral gin, and a copper Bennett pot still from 1860, which produces a robust, spicy gin. The two are blended, and only then are infusions of Bulgarian rose petals and cucumber added.
That final step is its signature: the gin smells and tastes of rose and cucumber, on top of a classic base of juniper, coriander, angelica root and citrus peel. The dark, apothecary-style bottle is based on old medicine bottles. Alongside the standard Hendrick's, there are the Cabinet of Curiosities releases, such as Neptunia and Oasium, and, more recently, the permanent Another Hendrick's in a white bottle.

Rose, cucumber and a proper gin
Rose petals & cucumber
Floral rose petals and fresh cucumber, with juniper and citrus peel beneath. Instantly recognizable.
Soft and floral
Softer and rounder than a classic London Dry, with rose, cucumber, coriander and subtle spice. Dry, not sweet.
Fresh and lightly spicy
A clean, fresh finish with juniper and pepper. That keeps it tasting like gin, not floral water.

The rule with Hendrick's is simple: cucumber instead of lime. It brings out exactly the botanicals the gin is known for.
Gin and tonic with cucumber
50 ml Hendrick's with 150 ml tonic in a copa full of ice, with three thin ribbons of cucumber instead of lime. Stir once. This is the gin and tonic the brand is known for.

Stir 60 ml Hendrick's with 10 ml dry vermouth over ice and strain into a chilled Martini glass, with a strip of cucumber. The rose and cucumber come through most clearly in a Martini.
