Salmari
Pitch-black, salty and from Finland. Drink Salmari ice-cold as a shot or with cola. Here you can read about its taste, the bottles available and which glass we serve it in.

Salty licorice from Finland, but in liquid form
Salmari is a Finnish salmiak liqueur, made with salty licorice that’s just as popular in Scandinavia as it is here. The salty zing comes from ammonium chloride. With licorice root and a little sweetness, it becomes a deep-black liqueur at 25%. So you don’t have to think too hard about Salmari colors.
In just a few years, Salmari has become a staple shot in the Netherlands, alongside Dropshot and Jägermeister. Take it ice-cold from the freezer. Drink it straight in a shot glass, or with cola or an energy drink. If you want something stronger, there’s also Salmari Vodka. The same licorice flavor, but at 40%.
In short
What kinds of Salmari are there?

Salmari Premium
The standard bottle. Plenty of salty licorice, followed by a smooth, sweet finish. Really good only when ice-cold.

Salmari 35 cl
Exactly the same liqueur, just in a small bottle. Great if you want to try it first or take it with you.

Salmari 3 liters
For a big party. Makes more than a hundred shots.

Salmari shots 24 x 3 cl
Twenty-four sealed 3 cl shot cups. Chill, peel off the tab, drink.

Salmari Vodka
The licorice flavor is still there, but in vodka form. Drier, stronger and much less sweet.
Take the regular 70 cl bottle, put it in the freezer and set out a set of shot glasses.
Sweet at first, then salty with a little fizz
Salmiak & licorice root
You immediately smell a bag of salty licorice. Salmiak, licorice root and a hint of anise.
Salty and sweet at once
Straight from the freezer, it's thick and smooth. First comes the sweetness, followed by the salty kick of the salmiak. You barely notice the 25% alcohol.
Long-lasting and licorice-like
The salmiak lingers, with a gentle warmth. At room temperature, it's sharper and saltier.
This is what Salmari Premium tastes like ice-cold. Salmari Vodka is drier and stronger.
Three ways to drink Salmari
Put the bottle in the freezer. At -18 °C, it becomes syrupy and smooth. At room temperature, the salmiak has a much sharper kick.
Ice-cold as a shot
Pour 2 to 4 cl straight from the freezer into a thick-bottomed shot glass, and chill the shot glasses too. That's how Salmari is meant to be enjoyed.
Glass: shot glass →Salmari cola
Fill a highball glass with ice and pour in 50 ml Salmari and 150 ml cola. Licorice and cola bring out the best in each other. A lime wedge makes it more refreshing.
Glass: highball glass →Salmari energy
A shot of Salmari in a tumbler with ice, topped up with energy drink. Think of it as the Finnish answer to the Jägerbomb.
