The bottle you recognize by its dimples
Dimple has been around since 1890 and comes from the Haig house, one of the oldest names in Scotch whisky. It is a blend: pot still malt whisky mixed with column still grain whisky. What sets Dimple apart from most blends is its high malt content, with recognizable components including Glenkinchie and Linkwood. This makes the whisky fuller and rounder than its price point might suggest.
The bottle is just as well known. It is triangular, with a dimple on each side, and wrapped in a wire mesh. The design was patented in 1958 and had a practical purpose: the dimples make the glass stronger, which helped during transport on unpaved roads. In English-speaking countries, the same whisky is therefore called Haig Pinch, after that same pinched shape.

Choose Dimple if you want a smooth blend with some dried fruit notes; Black Label if you're looking for something smoky.
Smooth, rounded, and slightly nutty
Vanilla & mocha
Vanilla and soft mocha, with dried fruit and a light woody note underneath. No smoke and no sharp edges.
Rounded and full-bodied
Rich and smooth, with nuts, dried fruit, and vanilla. The high malt content gives it more body than a standard blend.
Medium-length and sweet
A medium-length finish with wood and a sweet note. No harsh burn, even neat.
Dimple Gold flavor profile. Johnnie Walker Black Label scores higher on smoky and spicy; Glen Talloch Gold scores higher on sweet.
Three ways to drink Dimple
A smooth blend with plenty of malt is great neat, but works just as well over ice or with sparkling water.
Neat after dinner
4 cl in a tulip-shaped tasting glass at room temperature. Dimple is smooth enough to drink neat and is often served as an after-dinner drink, with dark chocolate or aged cheese.

5 cl over two or three ice cubes in a heavy tumbler. The ice takes off the last of the sweetness and brings out the notes. Use large cubes, as they melt more slowly.

40 ml of Dimple in a highball glass full of ice, topped with 120 ml of ice-cold sparkling water and a twist of lemon. Light and refreshing, and one of the better ways to enjoy a blend with a meal.
