Glen Talloch

A blend with 30 percent malt
Glen Talloch is a blended Scotch whisky: a mixture of malt whisky from pot stills and grain whisky from column stills. What sets the blend apart is the ratio. While an average blend contains around 15 to 20 percent malt, Glen Talloch contains 30 percent, and those malts have been aged for at least five years. You can taste the difference: the whisky is fuller and rounder than its price would suggest.
The whisky comes from Scotland, but the brand is marketed by the Frisian distillery Boomsma in Leeuwarden, which also makes Esbjærg. That explains why you’re most likely to find Glen Talloch on Dutch shelves and much less often elsewhere. Alongside the standard blend, there’s a 12-year-old Gold and an 8-year-old blended malt, made entirely without grain whisky.

Smooth, rounded, and slightly sweet
Grain & vanilla
Smooth grain with vanilla and a light woody note. No smoke, no sharp edges; this is a blend that doesn’t impose itself.
Rounded and slightly sweet
Full and rounded for a blend, with vanilla, caramel, and grain. The high malt content gives it more body than you’d expect at this price.
Short and smooth
A short, smooth finish with grain and a slightly peppery edge. No burn at all.

A smooth blend is the ideal bottle for mixing. Only the Gold 12 Years is worth drinking neat.
On the rocks
5 cl over two or three ice cubes in a heavy tumbler. The whisky is smooth enough to hold up well when chilled, and the ice takes the edge off.
