The story
Peachtree was launched in 1984 by De Kuyper from Schiedam, named after Peachtree Street in Atlanta. It became one of the fastest-selling liqueur launches ever: within two years, the bottle was behind virtually every American bar, and the peach schnapps wave that followed also brought us the Sex on the Beach and the Fuzzy Navel. In the Netherlands, the bottle took on a life of its own: here, Peachtree became above all the drink made with orange juice - sweet, low in alcohol, and familiar enough to serve to everyone.
The right glass
A Peachtree is a long drink, so it belongs in a tall glass holding 33 to 47 cl. For this cocktail, feel free to go for the larger size: the ratio is mild, so a generous glass with plenty of ice actually makes it fresher rather than weaker. Choose clear glass without any tint - that soft peach-orange color is half the fun. If you often serve guests, a stackable model is practical.

The right tools
For a Peachtree cocktail, besides the glass, you use a bar spoon for stirring, a jigger for precise measuring, a citrus juicer and glass straws. These are the bar tools we use ourselves; you'll find everything in our bar tools & cocktail sets.

Variations & twists
The best-known variation is the Fizzy Peachtree: replace the orange juice with sparkling water or 7UP and add half a lime — much fresher and less sweet. Cranberry juice gives you a pink version, while prosecco makes a peach spritz that comes close to a Bellini. Add vodka and you're heading towards Sex on the Beach. Looking for more inspiration? Serving tip
Peach schnapps is quite sweet, so let the ice do its job: really fill the glass to the top. A few drops of fresh lemon juice lift the whole drink and take away that candy-like edge — the small difference between a children's drink and a cocktail. Serving a group? Mix it in advance in a carafe and keep the ice separate.
Cocktails with Peachtree alongside the juice
A cocktail with Peachtree does not have to stick to orange juice. The same 5 cl of peach schnapps also works with cranberry juice, apple juice, or sparkling water, as long as you top it up to approximately 12 cl. Note the spelling: De Kuyper's bottle is called Peachtree as one word, but you see it written separately just as often as peach tree cocktail. Cocktails with Peachtree almost always call for something acidic, because the liqueur itself is already quite sweet. Half a lime or a splash of lemon juice keeps the drink balanced, even when you replace the juice.
How to make the Fizzy Peachtree cocktail
The Fizzy Peachtree cocktail follows the same structure as the recipe above; you simply replace the juice. Fill the long drink glass to the top with ice, pour 5 cl of peach schnapps over it, and top up with approximately 12 cl of sparkling water or lemon soda. Squeeze half a lime over it, otherwise the glass lacks the balance to offset the sweet liqueur. With pure sparkling water, you taste the peach most clearly; with 7UP, it becomes rounder and sweeter. Pour the bubbles along the inside of the glass and stir only once, otherwise the carbonation disappears immediately.
Frequently asked questions
Which glass do you use for a Peachtree cocktail?
A tall long drink glass holding 33 to 47 cl. Check out our long drink glasses for horeca-quality sets.
What is a Fizzy Peachtree?
The same peach schnapps, but topped up with sparkling water or lemon soda instead of orange juice. Fresher, less sweet, and lower in calories.
How much alcohol does it contain?
Peach schnapps usually contains around 15 to 20 percent alcohol. With the proportions above, you end up with a long drink of approximately 5 percent - comparable to a glass of beer.
Can you make a Peachtree cocktail alcohol-free?
Yes: use peach syrup or peach tea instead of the liqueur, topped up with orange juice and sparkling water. The taste and color remain virtually identical.
