The difference is in height and capacity. The 23.5 cl tumbler is the small one, for water with a meal, a modest soft drink or a juice. The 29 cl tumbler is the size in which whisky with a large ice cube looks right, and it doubles nicely as a sturdy water glass.

Choose between the 35.5 and 47.5 cl long drink glasses based on how much ice you want. At 35.5 cl you keep a normal ratio of spirit to mixer. At 47.5 cl you have the room to fill the glass to the top with ice and still pour in a full bottle of tonic, which keeps the drink cold for longer. A mixed set covers most orders.

Always fill a long drink glass completely with ice first and only then add the drink. That sounds contradictory, but a lot of ice melts more slowly than a few cubes and therefore waters your drink down less. Then pour the mixer down the inside wall so the bubbles stay in.

For a gin and tonic or a mojito you use the tall model; with a mojito, press the mint gently against the bottom first. The low tumbler is the shape for an old fashioned, which takes one large ice cube and nothing else.

The relief has a practical advantage you only notice with wet hands: the glass is far less likely to slip. It also has a drawback, because limescale settles in the grooves more easily than on a smooth surface. Set the water hardness on your machine correctly and use salt.

Hampshire is tempered soda-lime glass and is safe in the dishwasher and in a professional glasswasher. Place the glasses upside down in the rack so the water runs off.
