The 35 cl tumbler is the size that works for almost everything: water, soft drinks, juice, and, with ice in it, a cocktail. The highball glass The 27 cl highball glass is smaller and taller, and comes in packs of twelve, making it suitable for a birthday or a buffet where you don't want to be washing dishes halfway through. It's best to use color in moderation: four colored tumblers among six clear ones add character to a table without making it look cluttered. For water, you don't need to worry about measuring, but as soon as you add a cocktail, the size does matter. A 35 cl glass holds a gin and tonic with plenty of ice, provided you really fill the glass to the top with ice. A mojito is better built in the narrower highball glass: mint and lime at the bottom, crushed ice on top, then top it up. In colored glass, the drink's color does become somewhat less visible, so serve drinks in it where that doesn't matter.

Starla stacks, and that is exactly where it goes wrong if you get too enthusiastic. Two or three glasses inside each other is safe; above that they can suck together. If a pair does get stuck, stand the bottom glass in lukewarm water and put cold water in the top one, and they will let go. Otherwise the whole range simply goes in the dishwasher, on a short glass programme.
