Boswandeling is a cream liqueur from the Netherlands that tastes like banana and coconut. Think coconut liqueur with banana and cream mixed in. It’s yellow, thick and sweet, has 15% alcohol and is made by FLS Company, the maker of Flügel. The name and the forest animals on the label are a joke. The flavor has nothing to do with a forest. It does bring to mind a tropical beach.
It became popular at festivals, in student houses and on ski trips, where the bottle is passed around ice-cold. There are now also Boswandeling Pink, with raspberry and caramel, and Boswandeling Scroppino, with lemon, inspired by the Italian cocktail. As well as a shot, it also goes well with cola, pineapple juice or orange juice.

What does Boswandeling taste like?
Banana & coconut
Ripe banana and sweet coconut. It tastes like banana candy, with a hint of vanilla.
Thick and creamy
Straight from the freezer, it's syrupy and smooth, like a milkshake. You can barely taste the alcohol.
Short and sweet
Short and sweet, with coconut and cream. You'll want another, or something refreshing like cola.

How do you drink Boswandeling?
Put the bottle in the freezer. At minus 18 degrees, it becomes thick and smooth. At room temperature, it's much sweeter and thinner.
Ice-cold shot
Pour 2 to 4 cl straight from the freezer into a shot glass and drink it in one go. Chill the glasses too, so the shot stays syrupy for longer.

Mixing Boswandeling with cola is easy. Pour 50 ml Boswandeling and 150 ml cola into a highball glass full of ice. Banana and cola sounds weird, but tastes like a tropical ice cream sundae.
