Malibu
That white bottle with the palm tree tastes like summer. Here you'll find out what percentage alcohol Malibu is, which flavors are available, how to make Malibu with pineapple, what it does in a Piña Colada, and which glass to serve it in.

Caribbean rum with coconut, made for mixing
Malibu is a liqueur made from white Caribbean rum and coconut, with an alcohol content of 21%. The brand launched in 1982 for one reason: to make a Piña Colada easier to make. You no longer had to measure out rum and coconut cream separately; it was all in one bottle. The rum comes from Barbados, and Malibu is still made there.
The alcohol content is low and the coconut is sweet. That makes Malibu the easiest rum behind the bar, and there's almost always a bottle at a summer party. Alongside the original, there are fruity flavors such as Strawberry and Watermelon, as well as ready-to-drink canned cocktails. Malibu has been owned by Pernod Ricard since 2005.
In brief
What types of Malibu are there?

Malibu Coconut
The original. White rum with coconut in the famous white bottle. Sweet and smooth, and the foundation of every Malibu cocktail.

Malibu Strawberry
Coconut rum with strawberry. Pink, sweet and fruity. Great with lemonade or in a Strawberry Daiquiri.

Malibu Watermelon
Coconut with refreshing watermelon. The most summery of the bunch. With soda or tonic and plenty of ice.

Malibu 1 liter
The large bottle for parties and the garden bar. If you often pour Malibu Pineapple, this works out cheaper.

Malibu 35 cl
The same coconut rum in a smaller bottle. Great for a picnic or if you want to try it first.

Malibu Piña Colada
Canned Piña Colada with Malibu, pineapple and coconut. Drink chilled, or over ice.
A bottle of regular Malibu Coconut and a carton of pineapple juice will see you through the whole summer.
Sweet, smooth and full of coconut
Fresh coconut & vanilla
You immediately smell coconut, as if you’ve just cracked one open. There’s a hint of vanilla and sugarcane behind it.
Sweet and creamy
Full and sweet, with a lingering coconut flavor. You can barely taste the 21% alcohol. That makes it very easy to drink.
Short and smooth
Short and sweet, without the alcohol warmth. It calls for ice, juice or soda.
This is what Malibu Coconut tastes like. The other flavors are fruitier, and the cans are lighter and fresher.
Three ways to drink Malibu
Malibu is made for mixing. Most people find it too sweet on its own. It’s best with juice, soda or in a cocktail with plenty of ice.
Malibu Pineapple
50 ml of Malibu and 150 ml of pineapple juice in a highball glass full of ice. It doesn’t get easier than this tropical cocktail. Add a slice of lime for a fresher taste.
Glass: highball glass →Piña Colada
Blend 50 ml of Malibu, 30 ml of white rum, 90 ml of pineapple juice and 30 ml of coconut cream with ice. Pour into a hurricane glass and garnish with a piece of pineapple.

50 ml of Malibu and 150 ml of cola in a tumbler or highball glass with ice. Coconut and cola is sweet, but it really works. It’s also good with ginger ale.
