Start with the quantity. The 22 cl tumbler is small and meant for juice at breakfast or a short glass of water. The 33.3 cl with the thick rim is the sturdiest choice and lasts longest on a busy terrace. The 37 cl is the standard size for soft drinks, cider and light beer, and it is also the size the colours come in. The 39 cl leaves room for extra ice. For cider and light beer the rule is: pour at an angle and aim at the wall, so the carbonation stays in the drink instead of in the head. With soft drinks over ice, fill the glass with cubes first and then top up slowly, otherwise it fizzes over the rim. The 55 cl long drink glass is exactly the size for a cuba libre or a mojito with plenty of ice and mint. A coloured glass needs little garnish; a slice of lime is enough.
