Bokma Oude Jenever
Bokma’s Oude Friesche Graangenever: lightly spiced, with licorice, vanilla and a hint of clove. Fuller than the young genever, and best enjoyed at room temperature or as a kopstoot with a wheat beer.

Old is a style, not an age
Bokma Oude Jenever, whose full name is Oude Friesche Graangenever, is a lightly spiced genever with notes of licorice, vanilla and a hint of clove. Its flavor has remained the same for generations. For extra richness, five-year-aged genever from a cask of their own is added, lending it soft woody notes.
In genever, “old” refers to the style, not the age of the whole bottle. Old genever is fuller and grainier than young genever, and you can taste the difference: while Bokma Jonge is light and dry at 35%, the Oude is rounder, spicier and comes in at 38%. So it doesn’t belong in the freezer, but at room temperature in a tulip glass.

How to drink old genever
You don't drink old genever straight from the freezer. The botanicals and oak really come through at room temperature.
Neat, at room temperature
Pour 35 ml into a tulip-shaped genever glass and let it sit for a moment. Smell first: licorice, vanilla, cloves. Then take small sips.
Genever glasses →Boilermaker with a weizen
A tulip glass of Old Genever alongside a glass of witbier or weizen. The fruity, refreshing beer pairs better with the spiced old genever than a regular pilsner.
Boilermaker →Amsterdam Sour
50 ml Old Genever, 25 ml lemon juice, 15 ml simple syrup, and one egg white. Shake first without ice, then with ice. Strain into a tumbler filled with ice.

Kopstoot
A full glass of genever alongside a glass of beer. Oude goes best with a weizen.
Amsterdam Sour
Genever with lemon, sugar, and egg white. The Oude gives it more spice and body.
John Collins
Genever, lemon, sugar, and sparkling water over ice. Fuller with old genever than with gin.
