What is Ketel 1?

From Schiedam's oldest still

Ketel 1 is the jenever made by Nolet, the family distillery in Schiedam, established in 1691 and still run by the family. The name refers to Distilling Kettle #1, the distillery's oldest still-working copper pot still. Ketel 1 Young Jenever is a smooth, grain-forward jenever at 35% with a light touch of juniper and herbs, and has been the Netherlands' best-selling jenever for years.

In 1983, the same family created Ketel One Vodka, a 40% wheat vodka that became one of the world's most popular premium vodkas in America and has been sold in a joint venture with Diageo since 2008. In the Netherlands, 'Ketel 1' primarily refers to the jenever; there are also the Signature Blend (wood-aged, 38.4%) and ready-to-drink Hard Lemonades.
