With a tumbler, look at the base; with a longdrink glass, look at the height. The 30 cl of Borough is generous for a whisky but not so large that a single measure disappears in it, and the heavy base keeps the glass in place while you stir. The 42 cl longdrink glass has room for three or four ice cubes plus a full bottle of tonic, which is exactly why you buy a longdrink glass rather than a tall tumbler. In the tumbler, use one large block of ice instead of four small cubes: less surface area means slower melting and therefore less dilution. An old fashioned is the textbook example: you stir the sugar and bitters in the empty glass first and only add the ice afterwards. Both glasses are dishwasher safe. Place them upright and do not stack them inside one another, because a tumbler wedged inside another tumbler rarely comes out in one piece. Ice straight from the freezer in a freshly rinsed warm glass creates stress in the glass, so let a glass cool down for a moment before you refill it. Limescale streaks disappear if you dry the glass while it is still lukewarm.
