Schott Zwiesel Forté Vina

Start with what you drink most often. For pinot noir and other wines where the aroma does the work, the 73.2 cl burgundy glass is the right shape: wide at the bottom, tapering strongly inwards towards the top. The smaller 40.4 cl burgundy bowl does the same for white wine and for a glass you finish quickly.

The 53 cl red wine glass is the everyday size that takes almost anything. If you would rather not have a stem on the table, reach for the 58.7 cl wine tumbler. The 39.7 cl water glass sits neatly alongside, and the 22.7 cl champagne glass has an effervescence point in the base.

An effervescence point is a rough spot etched into the base; the bubbles cling to it, so the beading keeps rising instead of disappearing after a minute. Do not leave detergent residue on such a glass, because grease dampens exactly that effect.

Fill wine glasses to the widest point and no higher. The 55.7 cl highball glass, by contrast, you do fill generously with ice: the more ice, the longer your drink stays cold and the less it waters down.
