The 37.8 cl white wine tumbler has a narrower bowl that keeps the wine cool and the aroma together. The 41.2 cl champagne tumbler is a little wider and also has an effervescence point, which with sparkling wine makes the difference between a lively glass and a flat one.

The 55 cl red wine tumbler is the largest and the roundest. Red wine needs that room: you fill it to about a third, after which the wine can move in the glass and the tannin becomes noticeably softer. All three models are supplied in pairs.

Hold a stemless tumbler low down, with your fingers around the bottom, so your hand warms the wine as little as possible. Turn the glass on the table rather than in the air: without a stem that is easier, and it works just as well to release the aroma.

The champagne tumbler is the logical choice for a mimosa with freshly squeezed orange, or for an aperol spritz with ice, for which a narrow flute simply has too little room. Always pour sparkling wine along the wall in two goes, and you keep the foam under control.

Zwiesel Glas makes the Level series in Tritan crystal glass, with titanium and zirconium added. That makes the rim and the wall resistant to the alkalis in dishwasher detergent, so the glass does not go dull after hundreds of cycles the way ordinary crystal does.

So the glasses can simply go in the dishwasher. Without a stem they are also far less likely to break, which makes the series suitable for everyday use. Do let them dry completely before you put them away, because a tumbler standing upside down holds on to moisture.
