Arcoroc New York

Each size has its own purpose. The 25 cl tumbler is the table water glass and the glass for juice at breakfast. The 38 cl is the larger tumbler for soft drinks or a drink over ice. For highballs, the amount of mixer determines your choice: 35 cl is enough for a drink with one can of mixer, 40 cl leaves room for ice, and 47 cl is the bar size that fits a full tonic plus ice without spilling over the rim. The 3.4 cl shot glass follows the standard shot size. Find more sizes among the highball glasses.

Build long drinks in the glass, without a shaker. First fill it to the rim with ice, because a half-filled glass melts faster than a full one. Then add the spirit, and only add the mixer last, along a bar spoon or down the side of the glass so you don't destroy the carbonation. A Cuba Libre is made in a 40 cl glass, with a lime wedge that you squeeze into it and drop in. For a Moscow Mule the 47 cl glass works better, because it calls for plenty of ginger beer.

Arcoroc tempers the glass after forming, which changes the stress inside the material. A tempered glass copes better with a knock against the sink or a quick swing from hot to cold than ordinary glass does. If it does break, it falls apart into blunt pieces rather than shards, which makes all the difference behind a bar. The series is dishwasher safe and stacks to a height at which the glasses don't jam together.

Looking for the same thing in a different form? The brand selection is available under Arcoroc. For short drinks without a mixer, there is the tumbler glassescategory; for drinks and shots, the shot glasses. And if you’re missing the tools for measuring, you’ll find them under jiggers, where measuring cups are sorted by capacity. If you’re unsure between two sizes, choose the larger one: a glass that’s too full is harder to pour than one that’s half empty.
